Tha Rua Shrine

In addition to being one of the oldest, the Rua Shrine is the biggest temple complex among Phuket's four islands. With its theme of red, gold, and green, it attracts travelers as the brightest site of worship. When a Thalang resident who had a statue of the Po Sein in his house became unwell more than a century ago, Tha Rua Shrine was built. He is thought to have become Po Sein's spirit medium after a monk paid him a visit. The monk accessed the god's ancient healing techniques, which resulted in the man's recovery.

After the village heard of the man's recovery, many people came to the monk to benefit from his healing abilities for decades. Once, a wealthy guy met the monk who used his healing abilities to help him get better. A wealthy individual donated funds to construct a temple where the statue of Po Sein would be placed, but the monk never asked for anything in exchange for his care. A temple was built, and as the number of worshipers increased, so did its size. The temple also houses dozens of spirit mediums who participate in extreme practices like firewalking and cheek piercing as part of the festival's cleansing rituals.
