Wat Arun

The temple complex, which is situated by the banks of Chao Phraya, was founded by General Taksin and the surviving dynasty members during the Siam-Burma conflict. Later, when a new Ayutthaya was established, the temple was renamed Aruna after the Indian God of Dawn.

The temple is embellished with elaborate floral mosaics that were created from broken Chinese porcelain in a variety of vivid hues to create complex patterns. Eye-catching murals that date back to King Rama V's reign decorate several areas of the temple. King Rama II had created and erected the center Buddha statue.

The temple's major portrayal of Prince Siddhartha and his contact with the phases of life outside the palace's lofty walls, birth, old age, illness, and death, is one of its most notable features. It highlights how important these experiences are since they eventually cause him to give up his material affairs and pursue Nirvana. This location offers breathtaking views of the Chao Phraya River, particularly after sunset.
