In order to accommodate Muslim traders from South India and employees of the historic racetrack in Farrer Park, the first Abdul Gafoor Mosque was built in 1859. The crescent moon and star patterns that adorn the outside walls are commonly associated with Islam. Each of the minaret-like elements that line the roof parapet has a half moon and a tiny dome on top. Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya Temple

Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya Temple

In order to house a Buddha statue he had brought to Singapore, a Thai monk named Venerable Vutthisasara constructed a temporary shelter along Race Course Road using zinc and timber planks in 1927, giving rise to the Sakya Muni Buddha Gaya Temple.

Reverend Chun Wu established the temple when he arrived in Singapore in 1913 carrying just a bowl and a statue of the Goddess of Mercy, Guan Yin.
