How to reach Jungfraujoch
- By Train (The Classic Route): From Interlaken Ost, board the Bernese Oberland Railway toward Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald. Transfer to the Wengernalp Railway to reach Kleine Scheidegg. At Kleine Scheidegg, board the legendary Jungfrau Railway (Train R41). This cogwheel train departs every 30 minutes, starting at 8:27 AM. The 35-minute ascent travels through a 7-kilometer tunnel carved into the Eiger and Mönch mountains, arriving at Europe’s highest station. The last train down from the summit typically departs at 4:47 PM (seasonal extensions to 5:47 PM apply during peak months).
- By Cable Car (The Modern Route): Take the Eiger Express traceable gondola from the Grindelwald Terminal. This state-of-the-art system operates continuously from 7:45 AM to 6:20 PM (last entry at 4:15 PM). The flight to Eigergletscher station takes only 15 minutes. Upon arrival, follow the signs for a 3-minute walk to the underground platform to catch the connecting Jungfrau Railway train for the final 26-minute climb to the summit. This route is approximately 47 minutes faster than the traditional train journey.
- By Car: You cannot drive to the summit. Park your vehicle at the Grindelwald Terminal or Lauterbrunnen parking garages, then proceed by train or the Eiger Express gondola.
- By Foot: While you cannot hike the entire way, experienced mountaineers can hike from Eigergletscher to the Mönchsjoch Hut across the glacier trail.
